I’m a Michigan native and a multidisciplinary creative: photographer, artist, graphic designer, and professor in the Department of Art and Design at Central Michigan University. At CMU, I’ve enjoyed teaching photography, drawing, and a wide range of courses in the graphic design program. I’m also a Principal and creative director at Design Direction, LLC, a design communication studio where I’ve had the pleasure of helping nonprofits, startups, institutions, and Fortune 500 companies define and tell their stories through strategies that amplify their impact on the world.
I am passionate about exploring creativity in various forms, and photography has been a significant part of that journey. Influenced by a background in graphic design and fine art, my photographic work spans advertising, fine art, documentary projects, and diverse landscapes—which are shared on this site.
I’ve been fortunate to have work exhibited both nationally and internationally, and it has found its way into various books and magazines. My work has also been honored by leading design organizations like Communication Arts, the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), Graphis, The American Advertising Federation, The Webby Awards (Non-Profit Website of the Year), The Pixel Awards, The Creativity Awards, and Graphic Design USA, among others. Additionally, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a juror for photographic exhibitions and several national design competitions. I split my time between Midland and Frankfort, MI, with my wife and business partner, Lynne, and our Chihuahua, who likes to chase away the Amazon truck to keep us safe—it seems to work every time.
