I’m a Michigan native and a multidisciplinary creative: photographer, artist, graphic designer, and professor in the Department of Art and Design at Central Michigan University. At CMU, I’ve enjoyed teaching photography, drawing, and a wide range of courses in the graphic design program. I’m also a Principal at Design Direction, LLC, a design communication studio where I’ve had the pleasure of helping non-profits, small start-ups, institutions, and Fortune 500 companies to “define and tell their stories through strategies that advance their impact on the world.”
I am passionate about exploring creativity in various forms, and photography has been a significant part of that journey. Influenced by my backgrounds in graphic design and fine art, my photographic experience includes advertising, fine art, documentary projects, and diverse landscapes— which are showcased on this site.
I’ve been fortunate to have my work exhibited both nationally and internationally, and it has found its way into various books and magazines. My work has also been honored by design organizations like Communication Arts, the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), Graphis, The American Advertising Federation, The Webby Awards (Non-Profit Website of the Year), The Pixel Awards, The Creativity Awards, and others. Additionally, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a juror for photographic shows and several national design competitions. I split my time between Midland and Frankfort, MI, with my wife and business partner Lynne, and our Chihuahua, who bravely chases away the FedEx truck to keep us safe.
